1 in 10 'believe travel insurance covers them for adventure activities'

Around one in ten holidaymakers in the UK believe that all travel insurance policies cover them for taking part in adventurous outdoor activities, according to research.

The study by esure found ten per cent of consumers wrongly think they would be covered for mountain biking or scuba diving, while only 63 per cent said they would check their policies in advance of going on such trips.

It was also found that 15 per cent would book the activities despite knowing they are no covered.

Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at esure, said it is "crucial" that people take out travel insurance and ensure they are covered for such experiences.

He added: "Get injured and the medical bills could turn a paradise trip into a nightmare."

Other recent research by esure found that only 48 per cent of people check for severe weather warnings before booking holidays abroad.

The same study found that 79 per cent of people were also unaware of when it is hurricane season in the US.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18641788-ADNFCR
